You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

    Um... duh

At that time, aside from the government's ability to place more soldiers on the field, the only major difference between civilians and the army were cannons.
Naturally, things are much different now. I'm having a hell of a time getting my drone of the ground with a remote-controlled Ma-Deuce attached to it...

My kid is freaking out about this. Him and his dad are huge gun lovers. They are responsible gun owners though, everything registered, locked up, stored safely. My ex is the weapons specialist for the force. But because of this new law, he’s going to have to surrender his guns for “fair compensation” which is never what it’s worth. I love that Canada reacts to each tragedy and tries to make our country safer, but it’s also not really fair to those who have followed all the laws.

I'll gladly store his guns in the States for him. He can keep them locked up in his own safe, and I won't even ask for a key. All you have to do is get them here!

You cannot be fucking serious. You can't get 100 round magazine in the top one and you can in the bottom. The scope o n the top one is just in the way if your intent is to kill as many people as possible the fastest at short range. I cannot believe you even asked this let alone try to support it.

And what I think what is missing here is if you think the reaction in Canada is going to be bad it will pale in comparison to the right wing meltdown in the US.

There will be much shitting of pants over this because the NRA and US gun industry has invested a very great deal in trying to make sure our northern neighbor doses not get so restrictive it make the US look bad.

Actually Stumbler the top rifle can accept a 100 round magazine/ drum. Deaths by hand guns are at least twice as common as all rifle deaths, and of those hunting accidents and domestic violence by hunting rifle lead the count. Both of those rifles have the exact same basic internal mechanical design, they are only different because of how they look.

I have the bottom one, it has a scope on it too. I only own 5 round magazines. Funny thing though, I've had it for over 25 years and not once did it get drunk and go crazy and load itself, and go on a shooting spree.

Interesting how all these non-Canadians all of a sudden have views!

It’s about time. We don’t need automatic weapons in Canada. Hunting kit, sure.

There will be debate and reaction about it, for sure, but we’re not talking about collecting Pokémon, ffs. I’m glad he took the step, it’s about time someone had the balls to.

No, it won’t eliminate contraband, but it’ll make it a lot easier to get rid of them when they’re found.

Right Subby, but it's also interesting when non Americans keep sharing their twisted views on the US. It goes both ways. :p
However, I'm not against gun ownership at all but I don't see any reason to have automatic assault rifles. I'm okay with the ban as they're only made for killing people. So I'll give you guys up North my permission.

Nobody has automatic assault rifles, unless the are fully vetted and licenced manufacture, or Federal permits to own them. It is propaganda !
None of the weapons a background checked American can buy is fully automatic, none! Many are semi-automatic as are many sporting rifles.
The anti-gun lobby are the people who lie and perpetuate that myth.

The problem with the "hunting" standard is there are other very valid reasons to own a gun which includes self defense.

And the argument in the US is when it comes to self defense at close range you want the bottom one not the top one.

I do not personally prescribe to that argument and don't even have a loaded gun in my house anymore. But it is an instant defeat for the hunting argument in the US at least. Especially since no matter how you read the Second Amendment it is not about hunting it is about defense.

The RCMP has confirmed that the Nova Scotia shooter used firearms obtained illegally in Canada and from U.S. sources to carry out his crimes. He was not licensed to own firearms.

So how would any of these new laws that Canada intends to pass prevent this shooting or others in the future?

Well the problem you point out is the same one the anti gun movement faces here.

Laws do not stop gun deaths.
But, it does make these people feel better about themselves. No matter the only people who will obey the law are the responsible gun owners, you know, who aren't going to run around killing anyway.

I don't think that gun laws would stop certain people from using them but it's ridiculous to say that it wouldn't reduce the amount of killings we have.
    It's only common sense.

See, what is wrong with your stance is that you needed the gun to defend yourself when the offense occurred! Not afterwards as an act of revenge. The 2A is meant to protect yourself at the moment, not to seek out and hunt down others.

By using that same reasoning, if the amount of automobiles are reduced the amount of drunk driving fatalities should go down.

    Or would it???

I know this is not comparing apples to apples, but it does make the argument that if you don't eliminate them all, the problem will always exist.

Man kind has a very long history of violence. Unfortunately this violent behavior will always be around until the inevitable end of the human race.

When I was 4 years old I went most the way across Canada with my grandparents on a pipeline project. And just so you know we moved to a different trailer park about every month. And I got my smart mouth American ass kicked in just about every one of them.

In one of the parks I informed the locals that Queens are not real and only in fairy tales. The existence of a Queen was deeply impressed on me. I actually got the first kid, the second was tougher, the rest of them took their turns and at the end of the line was a mother who said what did you say?

Sincerely to this day and especially after her address to her nation I have an endearing respect for Queen Elizabeth.

So ! The weapons he reportedly used were illegal !! Wait what ???? They were illegal? So that accomplished what exactly? Nothing ! Making more laws is going to accomplish what exactly? Nothing ? Btw I didn't know owning Fire was illegal, when did that happen ? Better start arresting those smokers with butane lighters, they might kill someone by setting their house on fire!

About 7 years ago in Mexico, The cartels in a couple of Mexican States on the Pacific side got to the point where they would kidnap children and demand ransoms, rape teenage daughters if they couldn't pay up, and all manner of unspeakable acts. The citizens had finally had enough, and with the help of a Mexican who had become an American citizen, they formed Militia's, and with what arms they could muster took control of the corrupt local and Federale Police stations, put all the cops in their own jails, confiscated their weapons and took on the Cartels, and taking weapons from them as they killed them. Embarrased Mexican authorities were unable to do much about it. The Militia's finally had the Cartel trapped and were bent on killing them all. Mexican Authorities finally negotiated a deal with the Militia's to let the Mexican Army take care of the Cartel.
The Militia's handed over their prisoners to the Mexican Army, returned the confiscated weapons, but refused to surrender their own arms. They did finally agree to keep them in their own armory.
It was pretty big news around 2013 for a few days, and most of it was quickly suppressed, but you can still google a few stories about it, except the Press has relabled them as vigilantes and not the correct term Militias.

According to the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, in the United States the murder rate per 100,000 inhabitants is 5.3. In Canada it is 1.8. So, the Canadians are already doing things correctly.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

Stricter gun control laws would make it even harder for potential murders to get guns in Canada.

Several Problems with your post ! First you are throwing out "murder rate statistics" as if all murders are committed by firearms, they are not!
Second problem is, Canada's population is roughly the same as the State of Florida scattered all over of a land mass almost as big as Russia !
Third problem is, Population density, when you don't have large populations all living next to each other, there is less likelihood of having a bunch of people pissing each other off all day.
4th Problem is, Population demographics, The US is one of the most diverse cultures in the world and most of them do not like each other, so there is that!

Stricter Gun Control will not stop potential murderers, I can kill you just as easy with a bat, a knife, a car, etc! They will just use something else and many do!
