Poll Puts Joe Biden Ahead of Donald Trump in Texas

The independent polling firm Political Polls has put Joe Biden 5 points ahead of Donald Trump in Texas, with 48 percent of respondents in the key red state favoring the former vice president over 43 percent for Trump. The new poll echoes a CBS poll released Sunday that also shows Biden polling well in key battleground states. The CBS poll shows Trump just 1 point ahead of Biden in Texas but puts the Democrat 6 points ahead in Florida and in a tie in Arizona. Meanwhile, Five Thirty Eight compiled polling averages last week that show Biden surging in Virginia, Minnesota, and a host of other swing states—sometimes with double-digit leads over the president.

Trump is shockingly losing voters in these 4 red states

Recent polls have given President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign very little reason for optimism. Poll after poll has shown Trump trailing former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee. Biden is quite competitive in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Arizona and Virginia, but the most shocking part is how well the centrist Democrat is performing in some red states that Trump decisively won in 2016. Of course, any smart Democratic strategist realizes that the last thing Biden should become is overconfident, and one should never underestimate the GOP’s capacity for voter suppression — especially when it comes to communities of color. But if recent polls are any indication, Biden has a shot at victory even in some red states.

Here are four red states where the former vice president, according to polls, is shockingly competitive.

1. Texas

Although Texas is still a red state, it’s light red at this point: Texas’ major urban centers lean Democratic (including Houston, Austin, Dallas and El Paso), Trump won Texas by 9% in 2016 (not quite double digits) and Democrat Beto O’Rourke came within striking distance of far-right Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in the 2018 midterms. Until Democrats start winning more statewide races in Texas, it would be premature to think of it as a swing state — let alone a blue state. But recent polls indicate that Texas is in play for Biden’s campaign. A Dallas Morning News/University of Texas at Tyler poll released on July 12 found Trump trailing Biden by 5% in the Lone Star State, and Biden was ahead of Trump in Texas by 1% in recent polls from Fox News, CBS News/YouGov and Quinnipiac University.

Obviously, 1% is well within the margin of error, but the very fact that Biden has a chance in the Lone Star State is bad news for Trump’s campaign.

2. Georgia

Georgia, like Texas, is light red but not deep red. In 2018, Democrat Stacy Abrams ran a decidedly liberal campaign yet came within striking distance of Republican Gov. Brian Kemp. And recent polls of the presidential race show that Georgia is not a state that Trump can take for granted. A recent OAN/Gravis Marketing poll found Trump leading Biden by 3% in Georgia, yet another polls have found Biden leading in that state by 2% (Fox News) or 4% (Public Policy Polling).

3. Kansas

Not since President Lyndon B. Johnson’s landslide victory over Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona in 1964 has a Democratic presidential candidate won in Kansas — which has a reputation for being a deep red state. Democratic strategists have been writing Kansas off as a lost cause in presidential elections, and Trump defeated Hillary Clinton by 20% in Kansas in 2016. A Civiqs poll released in late May found Trump leading Biden by 12% in Kansas, but more recent polling has found that Trump’s lead over the former vice president in that state is down to the single digits.

In a state as Republican as Kansas, Trump should have a consistent double-digit lead. But then, Kansas is also where Democrat Laura Kelly, now Kansas’ governor, achieved a surprising victory in 2018.

4. Montana

Montana, like Kansas, is a state that Trump won by 20% in 2016. But a recent Montana State University poll found Trump leading Biden by only 5% in Montana. And in Montana’s U.S. Senate race, Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock is leading incumbent Republican Sen. Steve Daines by 7%. Those are not the type of numbers Republicans should be seeing in a state as red as Montana.

On Monday, The New York Times reported that as key Republican lawmakers continue to bail on President Donald Trump’s nomination acceptance speech in Jacksonville, Florida, many GOP officials are bracing for low turnout.

“As new cases surge in Florida, including 15,300 reported on Sunday, more Republicans are taking a wait-and-see approach to the event, or deciding to skip it all together,” reported Reid Epstein, Nicholas Fandos and Patricia Mazzei. “The G.O.P., which moved the convention to Jacksonville from Charlotte, N.C., after balking at health precautions there, now finds itself locked into a state with a far bigger virus problem, and planning an event whose attendance is waning as the pandemic escalates.”

So far, a number of GOP senators and representatives have said they will not be attending, with the two most recent names to pull out being Sens. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Pat Roberts (R-KS). Even some lawmakers in Florida will not be attending, like Reps. Francis Rooney and Mario Diaz-Balart, and Sen. Marco Rubio hasn’t committed to going either.

“Everybody just assumes no one is going,” said Rep. Darin LaHood (R-IL), who serves as one of the Trump campaign’s honorary state co-chairs.

Trump moved major portions of the convention, including the speech, to Jacksonville after balking at the public safety restrictions on large gatherings in the original host city of Charlotte, North Carolina. But even Jacksonville is now imposing mask requirements and other limitations as coronavirus explodes in Florida, leading the campaign to explore outdoor venue options and other changes that would still let Trump speak to a large crowd.

Biden campaign slams Trump's Rose Garden event as 'sad affair'

Joe Biden's campaign slammed President Trump’s Rose Garden speech on Tuesday as a “sad affair” that “says more about Donald Trump than he said about any particular topic.”

In a White House news conference that was supposed to be about the administration's action against China regarding the country's national security law on Hong Kong, Trump unloaded on Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, as he spoke for nearly an hour.

Trump accused the former vice president of being soft on China, failing to accomplish certain things he has criticized the Trump administration over and mentioned Biden's son, Hunter, a central figure in the president's impeachment trial.

CNN cut away from the president’s remarks, with host Wolf Blitzer saying the speech was "deteriorating" into what he described as "a campaign-type speech.”

“Today’s statement that was ostensibly supposed to be about China, but there was one topic that President Trump couldn’t seem to get off his mind: Joe Biden, whose name the President invoked nearly 30 times,” the Biden campaign’s deputy campaign manager and communications director Kate Bedingfield said in a statement.

Recent polls have shown Biden opening up a wide lead nationally and in several key swing states. On Tuesday, Trump rejected the notion that he is losing support, pointing to what he called flawed polling methods.

“Look, we won a race where it was the same thing in 2016. We had polls that were fake,” Trump said.

The Biden campaign said the president’s speech showed that he’s concerned about his prospects in November.

“What we heard in the Rose Garden today wasn't a president at all,” Bedingfield said. “It was a politician who sees his re-election slipping away from him and who is furious that his own botched response to the coronavirus pandemic has denied him the campaign events he so craves.

"The American taxpayer should be reimbursed for the abuse of funds this spectacle represented.”

Brad Parscale out as Trump campaign manager

As President Donald Trump’s polling numbers continue to fall, Brad Parscale has been removed as campaign manager.

Parscale, who has scored millions from the Trump campaign for his several companies over the past four years was promoted to the position, but after low rally turnout in Tulsa, Oklahoma, disastrous PR and sagging polls, Parscale is being replaced by Bill Stepien.

Trump made the announcement on Facebook since Twitter appeared to be down for anyone with a blue checkmark, including the president.

“This one should be a lot easier as our poll numbers are rising fast, the economy is getting better, vaccines and therapeutics will soon be on the way, and Americans want safe streets and communities!” Trump typed.

WASHINGTON — Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden holds a double-digit lead nationally over President Donald Trump, with 7 in 10 voters saying the country is on the wrong track and majorities disapproving of the president's handling of the coronavirus and race relations.

Those are the major findings of a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that comes 3½ months before the presidential election, amid a pandemic that has killed about 140,000 people in the U.S. and during protests and debates over race across the country.

NBC News / WSJ Poll: Biden leads Trump by 11 points

The poll shows Biden ahead of Trump by 11 points among registered voters, 51 percent to 40 percent, which is well outside the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

Biden's lead in last month's poll was 7 points, 49 percent to 42 percent.

In addition, the poll shows Democrats enjoying an intensity advantage heading into November, and it has Trump's job rating declining to 42 percent — its lowest level in two years.

"The atmosphere and the attitudes toward Donald Trump are the most challenging an incumbent president has faced since Jimmy Carter in 1980 and Lyndon Johnson in 1968," said Democratic pollster Peter Hart, whose firm conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies.

But the survey also finds silver linings for Trump and the GOP, as well as warning signs for Biden and the Democrats: A majority of voters approve of the president's handling of the economy, Biden's personal ratings have dropped since last month, and Democrats no longer hold a double-digit lead in congressional preference.

"As Americans are coping with the coronavirus and a reckoning on race, politically there is a great deal of sorting going on," said Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates. "We are a long ways away from knowing how this will all play out in voters' minds."

In his matchup against Trump, Biden's biggest advantages are with African American voters (80 percent to 6 percent), Latinos (67 percent to 22 percent), voters ages 18 to 34 (62 percent to 23 percent), women (58 percent to 35 percent) and white voters with college degrees (53 percent to 38 percent).

Trump is ahead among all white voters (49 percent to 42 percent), men (45 percent to 43 percent) and whites without college degrees (57 percent to 35 percent).

And in the combined 11 battleground states — Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — Biden leads Trump by 12 points, 52 percent to 40 percent.

What's more, half of voters — 50 percent — say there is no chance at all that they would vote for Trump (compared with 37 percent who say the same of Biden).

And in a separate question, a majority — 52 percent — say they would be "very uncomfortable" voting for Trump (compared with 38 percent who say that of Biden).

Democrats hold slight advantage in intensity
While more respondents say they're enthusiastic about voting for Trump (23 percent of all voters) than Biden (14 percent), the poll finds that Democratic voters are slightly more interested in November's election than Republicans are.

Overall, 77 percent of voters have a high level of interest in the election — expressing either a "9" or "10" on a 10-point scale.

That's the highest level on this NBC News/WSJ question since October 2012.

Yet by party, 80 percent of Democratic voters express high interest, versus 74 percent for Republicans.

"Both parties are going to have very high turnout," McInturff, the GOP pollster, said of the numbers.

Only 19 percent think the country is headed in right direction
The NBC News/WSJ poll also shows that a whopping 72 percent of American voters believe that the country is headed on the wrong track — a 16-point jump on this question since March.

2020 Election Biden unveils a more aggressive and progressive climate plan
Just 19 percent think the country is headed in the right direction, which is the lowest mark on this question since July 2016, exactly four years ago during the last presidential election.

Forty-two percent of voters approve of Trump's overall job performance — a decline of 3 points since June. That's compared with 56 percent of who disapprove of the president, including 50 percent of all voters who do so strongly.

Just 37 percent approve of Trump's handling of the coronavirus, which is down by 6 points from last month.

And only 33 percent approve of his handling of race relations.

But 54 percent of voters say they approve of Trump's handling of the economy — his highest mark on this question since he became president.

Warning signs for Biden and the Democrats
Trump's standing on the economy isn't the only potential warning sign in the poll for Biden and the Democrats, however.

Biden's personal rating in the survey has dropped from 37 percent positive and 38 percent negative (-1) a month ago to 34 percent positive and 46 percent negative (-12) now.

Trump's rating stands at 39 percent positive and 54 percent negative (-15).

In addition, the Democrats' lead in congressional preference has declined from 11 points in June's NBC News/WSJ poll (51 percent to 40 percent) to 4 points now (47 percent to 43 percent).

74 percent say they always wear masks in public
Finally, when it comes to the coronavirus, 74 percent of voters say they always wear masks when shopping, working or being around others outside the home.

That's an increase from last month, when 63 percent said they always wear masks — with much of the movement coming from Republican and male respondents.

And 57 percent of voters say they are more likely to vote for congressional candidates who focus more on controlling the spread of the coronavirus, versus 25 percent who are more likely to vote for candidates who focus more on reopening businesses.

"This isn't even a fair fight," said Hart, the Democratic pollster.

Monmouth poll: 57% of Pa. voters believe there are ‘secret Trump voters’ in community

A new Pennsylvania poll found support for Joe Biden may actually be much lower than recent surveys have suggested. Results from a Wednesday Monmouth University poll showed Biden with a 13 point lead on President Trump when it comes to favorability.

When asked who would win the election, the results were largely split down the middle. However, another statistic from that poll has drawn the attention of analysts.

57% of respondents said they believe there are so-called “secret Trump voters” in their community. These “secret voters” were defined as those who intend to vote for the president in November, but have not voiced that intention.

Patrick Murray, who directs the polling institute, has suggested the presence of these “secret voters” could mean Pennsylvania isn’t necessarily in the bag for Biden.

He added voters remember President Trump’s upset win in 2016, when many polls showed Hillary Clinton clinching states the president went on to win. Murray added, “the specter of a secret Trump vote looms large in 2020.”

Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin have long been seen as Democrat strongholds, yet President Trump took all three states in the last election.

Murray has cautioned people to take most early polls with a grain of salt. He pointed out that 57% of secret voters could prove to be the wild card that once again tips the scales in the president’s favor.

The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) endorsed President Donald Trump for president on Wednesday, abandoning their previous support of former Vice President Joe Biden.

“Our endorsement recognizes your steadfast and very public support for our men and woman on the front lines, especially during this time of unfair and inaccurate opprobrium being directed at our members by so many,” the letter from NAPO President Michael McHale read.

NAPO previously endorsed the Obama-Biden presidential ticket in both 2008 and 2012 and did not endorse a candidate in 2016.

The organization represents more than 1,000 police associations and 241,000 sworn officers.

The letter cited the Justice Department under Trump for prosecuting individuals attacking police officers, signing the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act, and support for the 9/11 first responders fund as more reasons for their support.

The Trump campaign welcomed the news in a statement:

“Joe Biden has done nothing to stop his party’s ‘defund the police’ movement and remains silent as police officers across the country are being attacked by violent rioters and protesters,” Trump 2020 Senior Advisor for Law Enforcement and Labor Unions Bob Paduchik said in a statement. “This endorsement for President Trump highlights that as the Law and Order President, he is defending the hardworking people who risk their own lives every day to keep our communities safe.”

Ok now most pundits say Pascal got demoted because of the Tulsa disaster and poll numbers that continue to fall. But since Trump is mentally ill we never know what he is really thinking because he does not know himself. And more than one tell all book said Hope Hicks gets off on fucking in the White House and she's had multiple boyfriends during and after the campaign. So maybe this could be the reason.

Twitter chides ‘jealous’ Trump after Brad Parscale’s demotion is blamed on ‘canoodling’ with Hope Hicks

Twitter users speculated this week that President Donald Trump demoted former campaign manager Brad Parscale because he was caught “canoodling” with campaign staffer Hope Hicks.

In an announcement on Wednesday, the Trump campaign said that Bill Stepien will replace Parscale as campaign manager. Parscale was expected to continue working with the campaign’s data operation.

The campaign did not immediately explain why Parscale had been demoted but commenters on Twitter linked the news to rumors that Parscale had been romantically involved with Hicks. During Trump’s 2016 campaign, then-campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was also demoted after he was said to have dated Hicks.

Some Twitter users accused Trump of being “jealous” of Parscale’s alleged relationship with Hicks.

Rupert Murdoch’s son and daughter-in-law drop more than $2 million to help elect Biden and Democrats

Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch’s son and daughter-in-law are two of the biggest backers of presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s campaign, federal filings show.

James Murdoch and his wife Kathryn Murdoch each contributed $615,000 to the Biden Victory Fund in June, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

The Biden Victory Fund splits donations between Biden’s campaign, the Democratic National Committee and 26 state parties. The couple has also contributed to other candidates aiming to unseat Republicans. Kathryn Murdoch is “increasingly giving to Democrats this cycle, including $1 million to help Senate Democrats,” The Washington Post reported.

James Murdoch has long been the more liberal of the conservative media mogul’s sons, backing Democrats like former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg in the Democratic primary. He and his wife also issued a statement earlier this year criticizing his father’s outlets over climate change denial.

James Murdoch told The New Yorker last year that “there are views I really disagree with on Fox.” He also discussed internal family tension, revealing that there are “periods” of time when he and his father do not talk.

The couple are not the only Murdochs to back Biden. Rupert Murdoch’s wife Jerry Hall sent a $500 check to Biden’s campaign in May after previously donating $1,000 to Buttigieg in the primary.

Rupert Murdoch himself has been fairly quiet this campaign cycle, though he has made several donations to Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

The media mogul has reportedly soured on Trump’s chances of winning re-election as polls show Biden surging ahead.

“Rupert thinks Trump is going to crash and burn,” a person who spoke to Murdoch about the election told Vanity Fair’s Gabe Sherman. “It’s a clear-eyed assessment, just based on just looking at the news.”

The newly-released FEC filings show that numerous wealthy donors powered the Biden Victory Fund to an $86.4 million haul in its first 68 days. The fund can receive donations up to $620,600, with Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskowitz and Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson among the maximum donors.

Several Republicans contributed to Biden’s fundraising operation, including former California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, who donated $500,000.

Prominent Democratic donor George Soros also contributed $500,000, while Walt Disney Chairman Bob Iger and filmmaker Steven Spielberg each gave $250,000. Former Democratic presidential rival Tom Steyer donated $360,000, and former Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker gave another $300,000.

The fund was launched after Biden officially clinched enough delegates to secure the nomination. The fund, Biden’s campaign and the DNC raised a total of $282 million between April and June compared to a $262 million haul by Trump’s operation.

Anti-Trump super PACs also raised plenty of money in the second quarter. The Lincoln Project, a group co-founded by George Conway, the husband of Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, raised $16.8 million, up from $2 million in the first quarter. The AB PAC, part of the American Bridge 20th Century Foundation, which was founded by former conservative David Brock, raised another $10 million.

Hedge fund manager Stephen Mandel contributed $2.5 million between the two PACs, while Bain Capital co-chairman Joshua Bekenstein and his wife each gave $375,000 to AB PAC, Bloomberg reported.

The biggest contributors to the Trump Victory Fund included Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac Perlmutter and his wife Laura, who gave $1.15 million, and Jet Support Services CEO Robert Book and his wife Amy, who gave $1.16 million, according to The Washington Post.

Biden campaign staffer mocked cops as worse than 'pigs,' called for defunding police
Sara Pearl has since deleted some of the social media posts

A supervising video producer for Joe Biden's presidential campaign tweeted a meme in June that urged people to stop calling the police "pigs" -- but only because unlike the police, pigs are "highly intelligent and empathetic animals who would never racially profile you."

The videographer, Sara Pearl, also retweeted a user's comment that while "pigs are sweet, intelligent and compassionate," police officers are "monsters" who "don't deserve to be called pigs."

On June 1, Pearl tweeted simply, "#DefundPolice." Days later, she said Buffalo's police department should be "defunded immediately."

And, after several Dallas police officers were killed in 2016 by a sniper who "wanted to kill white people," Pearl dinged the National Rifle Association for tweeting its condolences in that case but not for prior shootings: "Of course they respond to the officers but not to the previous shootings "

The Biden campaign did not immediately reply to Fox News' request for comment. Fox News also reached out to Pearl for comment. Pearl did not reply, but she deleted all of these tweets shortly afterward.

Pearl's comments came as the Trump campaign has portrayed Biden as weak on policing amid a nationwide movement to "defund" the police. A major law enforcement group this week endorsed President Trump's reelection.

According to her Twitter account, Pearl started with the Biden campaign on July 1, after working with Bernie Sanders' campaign. The anti-police tweets were posted in June, just days before she officially was hired.

Separately, Pearl has published several other pro-pig tweets. Last July, for example, she wrote that calling President Trump a pig was an "insult to pigs!!!!" that she will not "tolerate." In December 2018, she tweeted, "All I want in life is a dog and a pig !!!!!!!!"

Pearl also posted photographs of a yoga course she taught with pigs, and boasted that she had purchased a book about "exploring the extraordinary potential of pigs."

In response to criticism from the Trump campaign, Democratic National Committee communications director Xochitl Hinojosa asserted on "Bill Hemmer Reports" Thursday that Biden "does not support defunding the police."

However, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said in a recent interview that some funding should “absolutely” be redirected from police budgets.

In June, Biden attended a high-roller fundraiser headlined by musician John Legend, who has openly promised that he'll try to push the former vice president toward totally defunding law enforcement and adopting other far-left positions.

On Wednesday, Trump received the endorsement of the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), which praised his “steadfast and very public support” for law enforcement. NAPO did not endorse a candidate in the 2016 election but endorsed former President Barack Obama and then-Vice President Biden in both the 2008 and 2012 elections.

When asked how the NAPO endorsement of Trump would impact Biden's campaign, Hinojosa said, "I think right now, Joe Biden is making sure that he is someone who is talking directly to Americans about how to keep them safe and making sure we are rebuilding this trust."
